- A retractable awning is a product that is attached to the exterior of a wall or structure (ie: house, building, gazebo, etc) and can be opened and closed at the user’s discretion to provide shade or protection from the elements.
Advaning’s retractable awnings are made specifically for sunshade purposes. We make available two types of retractable awnings;

NICE UNIT WITH ON DRAWBACK – I have the 14′ x 10′ awning. The product appears to be very well made with all the necessary brackets and stainless bolts and nuts. I installed the unit without too much effort other than having to try to find studs through Hardie cement siding. Stud finders don’t work through that stuff. The main drawback so far is that the manual says not to keep the awning open during wind or rain. I wish that was clear in the product sales information. My plan is to keep it open all the time except for when we want sun on our balcony. I believe the issue is that the only support is from the wall and the leverage on the brackets with added wind and rain weight might cause problems. This is very similar to the awnings used on RVs, but those typically have support posts for the other side. I plan to add support brackets connected to my pool screen to take to the load off the wall mounts and keep it up most of the time. We’ll see how that works long term. The only other comment I’ll make is that the manual operation works easily when extending it, but is fairly difficult to retract. I suggest the getting the motorized unit if you plan to extend and retract the unit frequently unless you are getting one of the smaller awnings.
